Title: Operational Resilience from Ransomware Attacks in the Cloud

Abstract: Building for operational resilience helps us quickly resume business operations and reduce the impact of ransomware attacks against cloud based applications. In this talk, we’ll discuss the changing threat landscape and the challenges of detection in a context of cloud scale data encryption. We’ll demonstrate how to build remediation mechanisms that minimize the window between event and recovery. We’ll also share best practices for building a data vault to protect your backups. Finally, we’ll discuss how to run simulations to build your incident response muscle. Together, these mechanisms and controls will help you to secure your data assets and resume business operations in alignment with your RPO and RTO.

Bio: Syed is a Senior Security Solutions Architect at AWS. He works with large financial institutions to help them achieve their business goals in AWS, in alignment with their risk appetite. Syed likes to create holistic cybersecurity solutions using a multi-disciplinary approach. In his spare time, he can be caught making wood and metal projects at the local Makerspace and perfecting his coffee brewing process.
