Alan Calvitti is a Data Scientist at Bank of America in Global Information Security specializing in behavioral analytics, mining log data and event-driven systems. He joined the Bank in 2018 in ecommerce focusing on software defect detection in mobile applications. Prior to this, most of his career has been in bioinformatics and healthcare based at University of California San Diego and Dept. of Veterans Affairs, where he a track record of innovation in experimental methods for studying how clinicians interact with computers and helping to redesign them using data-driven approaches. Rapid prototyping methods he developed as lead scientist led to a string of successful federally funded multi-year projects. Calvitti also participated as a subject matter expert for analytics and UX in a series of national health it redesign initiatives. He has been a consultant on early stage fintech and machine learning. He holds a postdoctoral fellowship in Radiology from UCSD and a doctorate in Computer Science from Case Western Reserve University focusing on biomimetic control of walking robots with neural networks. He is active in education and mentorship and any day will finish his book on functional programming for data scientists based on real world projects.
